Black Box Data Recorder
(MUX-8A)
Records all data from up to 7 EI instruments + 1 GPS Input
Compatible with EGView
The Chart below chart created with EGView from MUX-8A downloaded data.
The Electronics International Black Box Data Recorder (MUX-8A) is one of the most sophisticated data recorders available for general aviation aircraft. Although it was designed to be used with E.I.'s Ultimate Bar Graph Engine Analyzer model UBG-16, the MUX-8A is capable of recording data from up to seven of any E.I. instruments and one GPS instrument.
The MUX-8A has three Storage Time Interval settings (1, 3 and 6 minutes). Also, it can be put into the "BURST" mode at any time to record data every 5 seconds. This feature is exceptionally useful when you suspect an engine problem. When the MUX-8A is connected to the UBG-16 it will record up to 690 hours of data at a six-minute rate, 345 hours at a three-minute rate or 115 hours at a one-minute rate. Also, the MUX-8A has an Event Warning Line that can be used to record data the moment your engine exceeds a high or low limit.

Control Switch |
When a new engine is installed in your aircraft or a repair is performed on your existing engine and something goes wrong, you may find yourself in an argument about who's at fault. The installer and engine rebuilder may claim it's your fault. They may believe the EGT's and/or CHT's were operated over temperature (possibly by leaning the engine during takeoff and climb with the cowl flap closed). You know better. But can you prove it? By recording your engine's and aircraft's operating parameters with the MUX-8A you have a permanent record to use as proof of how your engine has been operated. In addition, you can probably spot just when the problem showed up. In this type of situation, the MUX-8A could save you thousands of dollars.
Whether you're recording data to spot problems, check on how your engine is being operated by other pilots or just to keep a record on how your engine is doing, the MUX-8A provides a simple way to record and retrieve aircraft and engine data.
The MUX-8A comes complete with all the cables and software to download data to a P.C. This data then can be read, organized, graphed and manipulated by any data base or spreadsheet. These powerful data base and spreadsheet programs make interpretation of large amounts of data quick and easy. Also, Electronics International provides Professional Data Recording Software for those operators doing engine and aircraft modification or T.C. work. The UBG-16 comes ready to operate with the MUX-8A. Call to find out about adding an RS-232 port to other E.I. instruments.

Voice Annunciator
(AV-17)

The Voice Annunciator (AV-17) can provide from one to seventeen verbal warnings through your headset: Oil Pressure and Temperature, Fuel Level and Pressure, RPM, Manifold Pressure, Altitude and Timer, Cylinder Head Temperature, Exhaust Gas Temperature, Turbine Inlet Temperature, Engine Analyzer, Bus Voltage, Gyro Vacuum, Landing Gear, Air Speed, Oil Pressure, Fuel Level, Timer, Chime Only (no voice) and Bus Voltage. The AV-17 ends the need to constantly scan instruments. It also eliminates concern about missing an alarm at a critical moment. The instant a monitored alarm occurs, the Voice Annunciator will chime in the headset and a pleasant female voice will announce a phrase, such as: "Check Oil Pressure," or "Check Altitude," etc.
The AV-l7’s voice alarm in the headset provides an instant and clear understanding of what’s going on in the cockpit without the hassle of having to scan instruments, decipher functions, interpret readings or translate numerous bongs, buzzes or beeps.
The AV-17 connects to the headset through the Audio Panel or Intercom or it may be connected directly to the headset. The AV-17 receives most of its warning signals from any one or more of Electronics International’s instruments which feature a warning light. However, other alarm inputs can be received from any warning device that drives a horn or light. It is not necessary to activate all seventeen of the AV-17’s warnings. A "Check Bus Voltage" warning is built into each AV-17. Further voice alarms can be activated as Electronics International instruments are added to the panel.
The AV-17 is compact. A 4.1 x 2.6 x 1.7" Control Box tie wraps under the instrument panel. Also, there is a small 1" x 1" Control Panel that mounts on the aircraft instrument panel. The Control Panel allows you to turn the Voice Annunciator on or off. Also, it allows you to acknowledge and thereby deactivate any active alarm for either 1 minute or 10 minutes. The AV-17 voice alarms are activated by pulling the appropriate control line to ground (0 volts).
The AVI-1 module allows a positive voltage to activate ONE AV-17 control line. The AVI-1 is not necessary when connection to an E.I. Instrument.
