The Century IIB is a reliability-proven, lightweight single axis roll/heading autopilot with additional navigational options. The Century IIB utilizes a lighted directional gyro with a heading bug and a lighted attitude gyro for its sensing elements. These instruments work with a solid-state computer, control console and roll servo to provide lateral stabilization, roll command, and heading select.
The optional radio coupler permits heading select in the HDG position, VOR capture and tracking in the NAV position, increased sensitivity for VOR approaches in the OMNI position, and front course (LOC NORM) and back course, (LOC REV) localizer approaches. Intercepts are at 45°angles; crosswind compensation is automatic. Unlike many competitive systems, the custom-manufactured cable harness is included to reduce installation time and expense.
Options: Either square or round gyros may be chosen to accommodate the cockpit panel. The Century NSD slaved or non-slaved HSI system or other compatible HSIs may be substituted for the directional gyro. Stand-alone manual electric trim is certified in some aircraft.
